The THRE3 ALWAYS to Cooking ...
01NE Always cook with music. Whatever gets you going. This I have learned from my Dad – Sunday mornings are NEVER too early for him to blare 80s punk albums while cooking his famous chili. Always dance a little (even if it’s just some head bobbing).
TWO2 Always cook with olive oil. Always. It’s magical. Or so my Mom claims. Apparently olive oil is the reason why my Mom’s skin still looks so good and her blood pressure is low – and something about it being an aphrodisiac. It does wonders.
THRE3 Always cook and/or eat with others. This is a lesson that I have been learning my entire life. This is a lesson that I have learned from my Grandmother (Dad’s Mom) and my Nanny (Mom’s Mom). My Grandmother is a champ – dozens of freezer bags of Christmas cookies every year. She grew up on a farm in Texas – fried chicken (need I say more?), and she once cooked in the Pentagon – Senator Black Bean Soup being one specialty. Growing up I was her little helper and we always had everyone fed and full. My Nanny, she knew how to throw a party. Every holiday, every birthday, practically every week the family got together – the adults at the big table and us kids running around the living room. We got together and we ate – all day, it was always an event.
